Roses have always been among my favorite flowers to paint—elegant, complex, and endlessly inspiring. Even as a young art student, when instructors warned me that roses were “too difficult,” that they would “look like cabbages,” or simply weren’t worth the struggle, I couldn’t stay away from them.

After more than a decade of formal training here and abroad—mastering figure and portrait painting and teaching for over 25 years—I returned to the subject that first captured my heart. With refined skills and a deeper understanding of painting fundamentals, I discovered that roses weren’t intimidating at all.
