Katya Held is a realist painter and art instructor with over 25 years of professional experience. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and recognized in juried salon competitions. Her paintings are held in corporate and private collections worldwide.
Inspired by direct observation and the quiet poetry of everyday moments, Katya works across portraiture, figurative painting, cityscapes, landscapes, still life, and floral compositions. She seeks to capture fleeting light, subtle emotion, and a sense of presence—whether in the intimacy of a flower, the character of a sitter, or the atmosphere of a place.
Her practice bridges Russian classical training, European influences, and contemporary realism. Working primarily in oil, she employs both loose alla prima and direct multi-layer techniques, balancing structure with spontaneity. This combination allows her to build form and texture while preserving immediacy and emotional resonance.
As an instructor, Katya emphasizes observation, craftsmanship, and clarity, guiding students to develop both technical skill and personal vision.
