Portrait Painting Course “From Grisaille to Alla Prima” at Arts Council of Princeton, Princeton, NJ Thursdays, 6.30 - 9.30 p.m. Jan. 19 - March 22 For more info & to sign up for a class please click here. Course Description Getting an essence of the likeness, determining the most important information and making a simple statement with paint are some of the hardest things to grasp in a portrait painting. In this class students will focus on importance of studying from life. *Students will paint from the life model in short and long sessions, focusing on capturing proper relationships of shape, value, color, temperature and edge.* Students will learn to see the portrait as a group of abstract shapes while executing grisaille and alla prima paintings. They will learn to recognize the structure of the head, the landmarks, abstract shape of light and shadow, how light falls across the surface of face and head, value and color shifts while painting wet into wet in one, or several sessions. *Instruction will be given at the students' easels and through demonstrations.* *This class is designed for painters of all levels of experience.*

Life Figure Painting Workshop: Intensive at Arts Council of Princeton, Princeton, NJ Sunday, February 12, 2012; 12 - 6 pm For more info & to sign up for a class please click here. Working from the human form is beneficial to all drawing and painting. In this new intensive workshop, students will gain an understanding of open and closed "grisailles," and color relationships in figure painting. The Instructor's approach is based on her experiences at Studio Incamminati and will follow some of its principles and methodology. The class is aimed at practicing artists, as well as dedicated individuals at all levels of experience, but students should have some experience working from a live model. The morning session will focus on the opening steps of a figure painting, beginning with the gesture. The gesture will be further developed in the next stage, bringing an awareness of more specific shapes and proportions. In the afternoon, students will move to the concept of color study and will learn to see beyond the object's "local" color. *The instructor will conduct demonstrations throughout the day.*
